Katie Hazlett

Senior Vice President, The Reserve Component

Katie Hazlett brings nearly two decades of expertise in federal appropriations and successfully driving legislative initiatives in Congress. She has held senior positions in the federal government’s legislative and executive branches. In 2023 and 2024, the National Institute for Lobbying and Ethics recognized Katie as a Top Lobbyist. 

 

Katie dedicated 14 years of her career to Capitol Hill, working in various capacities for Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), the House Committee on Appropriations Chairman. As Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Committee, she served as the Congressman’s top advisor for all 12 Appropriations subcommittees. Katie’s experience includes staffing leadership positions on critical subcommittees such as Defense, Energy and Water Development, Homeland Security, and Commerce, Justice, and Science. During her tenure on Capitol Hill, she gained in-depth knowledge of various issues, including transportation, defense, homeland security, environmental policy, energy, and infrastructure projects. 

 

After Capitol Hill, Katie served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Energy (DOE), where she led the Department’s relationship with Congress, including the Committees on Armed Services, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. She supported the Secretary of Energy and the Administration’s policies before Congress in this capacity while managing external affairs engagement activities and intergovernmental relationships with state and local governments. Additionally, Katie served as Chief of Staff for DOE’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for the formulation and execution of the Department’s nearly $40 billion annual budget, overseeing a staff of over 100 employees. 

 

Katie holds a Master of Arts degree in Government with a concentration in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Catholic University of America. 

 

A native of New Jersey, Katie moved to Washington, D.C., in 2001. She resides in Alexandria, VA, with her husband and son.
